AFC Yeast has countless Human Food Applications

AFC Yeast Technology can increase the availability of a highly nutritious and proteinaceous yeast in virtually unlimited volumes and at lower cost. 

By using continuous fermentation (faster than standard batch fermentation by a factor of 5-7) it is possible to produce a significantly larger volume of yeast than standard practice. AFC Yeast can be delivered in dried form and, if required, can be  separated into an 80% protein concentrate, nucleotides and cell walls. It can also be delivered in slurry form for certain applications like dairy production. 

The developed applications include:
  • Milk extender, increasing the volume by approx 30% while maintaining the overall protein percentage.
  • A possible 80% protein concentrate ideal for the health products and sport drinks (estimated to be available at $5/kg compared with corresponding quotes of whey protein $25/kg and soy protein $6-7/kg).
  • Yoghurt and mayonnaise.
  • An egg replacement in baked products such as muffins, cakes and biscuits. AFC yeast replaces the protein of eggs and produces a similar texture, without the taste problem of soy protein. It provides the benefits of eggs to those that don't or can't eat them.
  • A protein “chew”, when mixed with certain dry ingredients can provide the basis of a small flavoured chew containing approx 50% of the Recommended Daily Intake of protein for children.
